TikTok is often marketed as the platform with land of opportunity, and it really is. When was the last time you followed a brand or an influencer on Facebook or Instagram? I rest my case.

Like it or not, TikTok is here to stay. With 689 million monthly active users worldwide, if you aren’t already trying to build a community for your brand there and making use of their advertising platform, it's time to get moving.

I decided at the end of January to challenge myself to build a page to 10,000 followers using tips I saw “gurus” share, but with a more chilled approach - I don’t have all day to scroll through the For You Page!

After posting daily for 42 days and hitting 10K, here are my key takeaways.

  1. You do need to post often

I know this is the most common tip and you probably hoped I was going to say it wasn’t the case, however, it is.

I’ve seen gurus claim you should post three to four times a day, and to be honest, if I wanted to grow the page larger within the six-week period, posting more frequently would’ve been the key. However, like you (I’m assuming), I have a life, and posting three to four high energy posts a day is asking a lot.

I tip my hat to you full-time content creators!

  1. Find your community

One of the best things about TikTok is the community, unlike other platforms (hi, Facebook!), where it can be quite hard to make genuine connections with both your community and fellow creators.

I found that creators and community members are more likely to engage on posts and jump into your live stream and say hey on TikTok. It feels way more genuine.

  1. Go live!

I’ll be completely honest, I think I’ve been live a maximum of four times on Instagram, and that’s 100% been on client pages. It’s never been my thing. TikTok, however, is a different story.

When you hit 1K on TikTok, you unlock the live feature; not only does TikTok promote your Live on the For You page, it also gets your posts in front of more faces. I go live Monday-Friday at 8 p.m. GMT. It’s a great way to connect with your community and get your page boosted!

My plan now? Continue to grow my page and community. I’ve fallen in love with the platform and the people and I’m sharing my tips with clients looking to grow their community on TikTok. If you want to see more, you can follow along here.
